Director David E. Hedrick of the University of Missouri's Fire & Rescue Training Institute (MU FRTI) has announced that on May 3, 2009 during the Fire Fighters Association of Missouri (FFAM) 54th Annual Convention held in Warrenton, MO, one of MU FRTI's personnel was re-elected as President of the FFAM.
Jerry Miller, MU FRTI Regional Training Coordinator for Region G, was re-elected to the position of President of the FFAM. President Miller was first elected to President in 2007. The FFAM is a non-profit statewide organization that provides representation for over 8,000 Missouri firefighters. Its mission is to promote the safety and education of firefighters, as well provide a network of resources and information.
MU FRTI Director David Hedrick attended the FFAM business meeting at which President Miller was re-elected. In congratulating Miller on his re-election, Hedrick said that: "the Institute is proud of the outstanding work of its faculty and staff, and their community and organizational involvement."
Regional Training Coordinators at MU FRTI are part time positions that coordinate fire training programs in their assigned regions as part of the Field Extension Program. Coordinator Miller has the responsibility for Region G which encompasses the south-central part of the state. Hedrick said that: "the University of Missouri Extension's Fire & Rescue Training Institute appreciates the support and partnership we have with the FFAM and its Officers. We look forward to continue working together to improve the fire service of the state through education and training."
The MU FRTI is charged with the responsibility of providing comprehensive continuing professional education training to Missouri's fire service and emergency response personnel. Last year over 311,000 student instructional hours were delivered in training emergency first responders.
