Director David E. Hedrick of the University of Missouri's Fire & Rescue Training Institute (MU FRTI) has announced the appointment of Brendan Kyle Smith to the position of Instructional Support Associate at MU FRTI. The MU FRTI is a unit within the Division of Extension at the University and is charged with the responsibility for providing comprehensive continuing education training to Missouri's fire service and emergency response personnel. MU FRTI delivers over 300,000 student instructional hours of training each year to firefighters and emergency responders.
Kyle has been a dedicated employee of the Institute for ten years and has provided excellent coordination of materials and resources to support the delivery of instruction. In his new position Kyle will perform a comprehensive array of duties to logistically support the on-campus and field training initiatives of the Institute. This position change is designed to meet the expanding operational needs of the Institute. Regarding Smith's appointment to Instructional Support Associate, MU FRTI Director Hedrick said, "His dedication to assuring that the instructors and fire departments always have the necessary course materials and instructional supplies have brought highly positive feedback from both our internal and external constituents. I look forward to Kyle's continued exceptional performance in this new job position."
Instructional Support Associate Smith began with MU FRTI in 1999 performing logistical support duties for the Institute in the position of Storekeeper. Kyle is a state certified Fire Instructor and has an Associate's degree in Fire Service Administration from Columbia College. He volunteers as a firefighter with the Boone County Fire Protection District (BCFPD), serving the community of Sturgeon. He currently holds the rank of Lieutenant with BCFPD.
