Debbie Robison, MU Extension Associate Vice Provost, announced this morning that Paul Rainsberger will serve as interim director of University of Missouri Extension's Fire and Rescue Training Institute, beginning August 1.

Rainsberger has served as director of MU’s Labor Education program since 1997. He will continue in that position while serving as the interim director of the Fire and Rescue Training Institute. “Paul has demonstrated his strong administrative and leadership skills as director of the Labor Education program, and I appreciate his willingness to serve in the interim capacity for MU FRTI,” Robison said.

Gary Wilson is leaving his position as director of MU FRTI to accept a position as training chief for the Overland Park (KS) Fire Department.

“Gary has provided great vision and energy to MU’s Fire and Rescue Training program over the past few years and his leadership will be missed,” said Debbie Robison, MU Associate Vice Provost for Extension. “MU FRTI is a nationally recognized program, and we will search for a new director that has the talent and commitment to maintain that status.”

Von Pittman, director of the MU Center for Distance and Independent Study, will chair the search committee and is committed to having a new director in place by the end of the year. Other committee members include: Bart Weschler, Director of the Harry S Truman School of Public Affairs; Phil Sayer, Chair of the Missouri Fire Education Commission; William Markgraf, Chief, Columbia Fire Department; Randy Cole, State Fire Marshal; Mike Arnhart, Chief, High Ridge Fire Protection District and Adjunct Faculty of MU FRTI; Robert Woody, Chief, Ft. Leonard Wood Fire and Emergency Services and MU FRTI Regional Coordinator; Richard “Smokey” Dyer, Chief, Kansas City Fire Department; Sherman George, Chief, St. Louis Fire Department; Steve Paulsell, Chair, Fire Service Alliance and Chief, Boone County Fire Protection District; Dan Whistler, Chief, Springfield Fire Department; Randy Novak, Bureau Chief, Iowa Fire Service Training Bureau; and Kevin Zumwalt; Special Projects Manager, MU Fire and Rescue Training Institute.
