The fire service future hinges on the present, and yet the present is caused by our past. Anytime we want to know the “why,” we have to look for the causes and motives that took shape earlier. Through exploration and examination of past significant fires you will see the complex and challenging problems the fire service has faced and overcome. This will lead you to understand the why behind many of our present tactics and strategies, and will inspire you to continue to identify and comprehend causes of change. If change is inevitable, we need to have the cognizance to be able to lead that change in a direction of continuous improvement for the fire service.
