Mike Novak has over 29 years in the fire service where he started out as a volunteer firefighter and worked his way into a full-time position for Branson Fire Rescue, he currently is serving as the department training and safety officer. Mike currently holds the position of Region 7 Advocate Manager for the National Fallen Firefighters, Everyone Goes Home® Program (EGH). Mike is a certified EMT, Fire Service Instructor 2, Fire Officer 2, and a CFO, amongst many other fire service certifications.

This course addresses NFPA 1041, Standard for Fire Instructor Professional Qualifications, Chapter 4, 2012 edition competencies at the fire service instructor I level. This course focuses on the presentation skills needed by new instructors delivering prepared lesson plans. Students will cover lesson plan preparation, presentation skills, using audiovisual equipment, identifying lesson objectives, questions, tests, and evaluation instruments.


  • This is a self-paced blended learning delivery course. Participants will meet in-person with their laptop for the first day of class and to receive their log-in credentials. The remainder of the class will be instructor-led through an online portal during the seven weeks that follow. This course requires a computer, and reliable Internet access.
