The fire investigation course was developed by the Division of Fire Safety to provide various opportunities to combine experience with training. Topics discussed include accidental and incendiary fire causes, juvenile firesetting, legal aspects, and interview and interrogation. Successful completion of the course and practical skills exam are required for eligibility to take the division’s Fire Investigator Certification Examination. The student must achieve a score of 70 percent on the exam to qualify for certification. The requirements for Fire Investigator I certification are based on NFPA 1033.
