Hazardous Materials

MU FRTI offers hazardous materials and environmental emergency response training to both the public and private sectors. The public sector emergency responder training program concentrates on offering training necessary for the safe response of fire fighters, law enforcement personnel, and EMS providers to hazardous materials emergencies.
The core curriculum for the public sector training includes the Hazardous Materials Incident Response series and a national model Drug Lab response curriculum. MU FRTI’s HMIRA and HMIRO programs are recognized by both the Missouri Division of Fire Safety and the Missouri Emergency Response Commission.
MU FRTI’s First on the Drug Lab Scene curriculum was developed for the Federal Emergency Management Agency as a national model program and is currently in use across the country. Hazardous Materials Incident Response Awareness and Operations programs are also available as online programs.
The Hazardous Materials Incident Response: Technician program has been evaluated by the American Council on Education and approved by the Office of Domestic Preparedness (ODP).
