David E. Hedrick is the Director of the University of Missouri Extension's
Fire and Rescue Training Institute (FRTI) and is responsible for managing the
overall operations and activities of the Institute. He joined the FRTI program
in January 2007.
Mr. Hedrick is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, as well as the Louisiana
State University’s Governmental Services Institute. He has been involved
in fire and emergency services for over 30 years, beginning his career as a
Firefighter/EMT in 1976. In his career he has served with municipal and volunteer
fire departments, as well as industrial fire brigades. A significant portion
of his career has been spent at the state level involved in fire service training
and administration. He served as an Assistant Director with the Louisiana State
University’s Firemen Training Program. He is the former Director of Fire
Service Training with the Tennessee Fire Service & Codes Enforcement Academy
serving for six years in that capacity until 2006. In this position he oversaw
the final construction and program planning for a brand new state facility
for “live” fire and rescue training for the State of Tennessee,
as well as coordinating the transition of the state’s fire training mission
to the new academy. Mr. Hedrick has also worked as an independent consultant
in the field of fire and emergency service training and administration for
both the public and private sector.
David has been the recipient of various fire and emergency service awards during
his career. He has been a speaker and lecturer at state level and national
fire service conferences. He is also a published author of various articles
and materials related to the fire service and training.
He is a member of a variety of professional organizations related to fire and
emergency services. In 2003 David received his designation as a Chief Fire
Officer from the Commission on Professional Credentialing of the Center
for Public safety Excellence. In 2005 Mr. Hedrick had the honor of being the
Host State Fire Director of the North American Fire Training Directors’ Annual
Conference that was held
